Bollywood Actress Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta is considered as the bubbliest heroine of Bollywood. The gorgeous actress has proved her strong acting skills and has done variety of roles in the number of films. Whether it is fine acting or sexy looks, dance or screen presence, Preity Zinta does not lack anywhere.

Preity Zinta was born in Shimla on January 31st, 1975. Her father Mr. Durganand Zinta was an army officer and her mother’s name was Neelprabha. Unfortunately, when Preity was just thirteen years old, her father and mother met with a serious car accident, her father died in the accident but mother survived. However, her mother got severely injured and was bedridden for more than two long years. Apart from parents, Preity has two siblings: one elder brother named Deepankar and one younger brother Manish. Manish lives in Unites States and Deepankar serve Indian Army as a commissioned officer.

Preity did her schooling from convent of Jesus and Mary boarding school in Shimla and did graduation from St Bede’s College, Shimla. Preity was quite good at academics as well as she used to play basketball too in her school days. She did her graduation twice, once in English literature and second time in Psychology, later she also earned PG degree in Criminal Psychology. But then Preity got chance to meet a director (ad-maker) in a friend’s party who offered her working in Perk Chocolate’s TV commercial, Preity agreed and this way she started her career in modeling. Preity did many ads and commercials further.

Her entry into films also happened all of a sudden when she went to audition of Mani Ratnam’s film “Dil Se”, just to accompany one of her friend and luckily co-producer of the film, bandit queen fame actor-director Shekhar Kapoor saw her there and asked to give audition. She gave audition and got selected for the supporting actress role. This way, Preity Zinta entered in the tinsel town.

Despite of presence of experienced actors like Shahrukh and Manisha, Preity faced the camera confidently, performed very well and left a positive impression on the audience via her short role. Dance number “Jiya Jale” became very popular and Preity looked ultimate sexy in the song video. Her second film “Soldier” also released in the same year and was declared a hit. Preity also earned “Fimfare Best Debut” award for the year and then onwards, Preity never looked back again.

After this, she got many film offers, worked in number of films and each role was challenging and different. Some of her most recognized films were: “Kya Kehna” in which she played a teen ager mother, “Sangharsh” opposite Akshay Kumar in which she portrayed a CBI officer, “Salam Namste” which was based on live in relationship issue, “Veer Zara” , based on cross border love, Science fiction “Koi Mil Gaya” and “Kal Ho Na Ho” for which she earned her first film fare best actress award. Her other famous films are: “Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega”, “Chori Chori Chupke Chupke”, “ Dil Hai Tumhara” , “Lakshya” and “Armaan” . For “Armaan”, she also received “Fimfare’s Best Villain Award”.

Preity also worked in two English language films which are Deepa Mehta’s “ Heaven on Earth” in 2008 and Rituparno Ghosh’s “The Last Lear” with Amitabh Bachchan in 2007. In both the films, she performed very well and got rave reviews from critics and audience. Preity also won best actress (Silver Hugo) award for “Heaven on Earth” in Chicago International Film Festival”.

Apart from films, Preity has worked in other fields as well. She wrote four columns in the year 2004 for “BBC News Online” . Most importantly, Preity has been very active in humatarian and social works. She did some charity shows to help poor people, women, underprivileged children and victims of earthquake. She served as a brand ambassador of Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Movement. In the year 2007, Preity joined the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to curb human trafficking in India.

Preity Zinta’s personal life has been quite open and Preity as never hide her relationships in media. In 2000, she started dating model Marc Robinson but the couple broke up in a year. Later, in 2005, Preity and Bombay Dying owner Ness Wadia came closer and started dating. Preity openely accepted her relationship with Ness in media. The relationship remained strong for 4 years until 2009, when they broke up.

She has also been involved in few fake scandals such as when Suchitra Krishnmurthy blamed her to be the cause of her divorce with Shekhar Kapoor and in 2006, another controversy featured Zinta when Ness Wadia was reported to have attacked construction workers at her residence. But each time Preity faced the scandals confidently with full courage and honesty. Preity challenged the blaming personals openly to produce the proofs but they were unable to show it and blames were proved totally fake.

After 2007, Preity’s career graph started falling and she had just one release in 2008, in 2009 and 2010 none of her films are released. However, her film “Har Pal” with Shiney Ahuja is ready but is closed in box because of Shiney’s controversial sex scandal with his maid.

Decline in career had never let Preity down. In 2008, When Preity and Ness Wadia were together, she became the co-owner of IPL( Indian Premier League)’s Mohali based King XI Punjab team along with Ness Wadia and other two co-owners. Team did well in first season and reached to finals but its performance dropped down in IPL’s second and third seasons but Preity is still the co-owner of the team.

Preity also joined a short term advanced course in business management and entrepreneurship from United States last year and it seems, she is on her way to be a successful business woman of India. But we hope to see Preity in some more films in the coming years.
